Universal remote codes for Vizio TVs
The short answer
Vizio codes come from Jasco's published GE lists, and which ones apply depends on the CL version printed inside your remote's battery compartment — CL3, CL4, CL5 or CL6. Find that label first, then use the block for it below; codes from the wrong version will not work.
Vizio is a North American brand, and it does not appear in the European One For All list this site also draws on. Every Vizio code here therefore comes from Jasco, the manufacturer of GE-branded remotes, which publishes a separate list for each version of its remotes.
That makes the CL version the first thing to establish. It is printed on a sticker under the batteries or on the inside of the battery cover, and Jasco is explicit that codes are not interchangeable between versions.

Codes are only meaningful to the remote whose table they come from. A GE code will not program a One For All remote and vice versa, and GE's own four versions — CL3 to CL6, printed inside the battery compartment — are not interchangeable with each other either. Always use the block that names your remote.

Find your CL version before anything else
Open the battery compartment and look for a sticker under the batteries or on the underside of the cover. It carries the model number and a version marked CL3, CL4, CL5 or CL6.
Vizio is one of the brands where this matters most, because the entry differs substantially between versions — the CL3 list runs to more than twenty Vizio codes while CL6 carries eleven. Working through the wrong version's list will not find your set.
Vizio's infrared receiver sits low and off-centre
On most Vizio models the receiver is at the bottom edge of the panel, often towards the right rather than the centre. A soundbar in front of the screen blocks it more often on Vizio than on brands with a centred receiver.
If the remote seems to work intermittently, try again from a lower angle before concluding anything about codes.
What a universal remote reaches on SmartCast
A correctly paired remote gives you power, volume, mute, input and the directional keys — enough to navigate SmartCast and launch apps. The dedicated app-launch buttons and the microphone are specific to Vizio's own remote.
If SmartCast looks frozen rather than unresponsive, the remote is usually innocent: SmartCast loads its interface over the network, and a set that has lost its connection ignores navigation keys while still answering power and volume.
When it doesn't work
The remote works close up but not from the sofa
A line-of-sight problem rather than a code problem. Vizio's receiver is at the bottom of the panel and is easily blocked by a soundbar or shelf edge.
No code from my list works
Check the CL version on the battery-compartment sticker and confirm you are using the matching block. This is the most common cause on GE remotes, because the four versions carry genuinely different Vizio entries.
The search method finds nothing
Check the device key first — a search started on the wrong key sweeps the wrong part of the table. Then confirm the remote is transmitting at all by pointing it at a phone's front camera.

Do Vizio TVs work with any universal remote?
Yes. Every Vizio television has a standard infrared receiver, so any universal remote with a matching code or a search function will control it.
How do I control SmartCast without the Vizio remote?
A universal remote handles power, volume, input and the arrow keys, which is enough to navigate SmartCast. Vizio also publishes a mobile app that controls the set over your network.
Do I have to re-enter the code after changing the batteries?
On almost every modern remote, no. Codes are held in non-volatile memory and survive a battery change. If power and volume stop working immediately after a battery swap, re-enter the code — a few older models do lose their programming when left without cells for several minutes.
