The short answer
Which codes you need depends on the remote in your hand, not just on the television. This page lists every verified code we hold for Philips TVs, grouped by the remote that uses them — One For All's published Contour TV list and Jasco's four GE code-list versions. Find your remote below and work down its codes in order.
Philips created RC5, the infrared standard much of the European industry then adopted. The evidence is visible in the code list itself: the first Philips code is shared with three other major brands.
If your remote is neither a One For All Contour TV nor a GE remote, the codes on this page will not program it — every manufacturer indexes its own table. Use the search method instead, which needs no list: it walks the remote's own codes until the television responds.

Codes are only meaningful to the remote whose table they come from. A GE code will not program a One For All remote and vice versa, and GE's own four versions — CL3 to CL6, printed inside the battery compartment — are not interchangeable with each other either. Always use the block that names your remote.

Why Philips codes turn up under other brands
Code 0556 appears in this single official document under Philips, Samsung, LG, Hisense, Grundig and Bush. Philips published RC5 and licensed it widely, and manufacturers building to that standard inherited its command structure.
The practical use: if 0556 works on a set of any brand, it is answering a widely shared command set. That is also why cross-brand code borrowing succeeds more often around Philips than anywhere else in the list.
Ambilight is not a remote function
Ambilight is generated by the television from what is on screen and configured in the set's own menus. No code controls it, and its absence from a universal remote is not a sign of an incomplete pairing.
Philips' own remotes on higher-end models carry a dedicated Ambilight key that opens the settings panel directly. A universal remote reaches the same panel through the menu.
When it doesn't work
The code controls two devices at once
Shared command sets cut both ways. If a Philips code also drives something else in the room, move that device out of line of sight to confirm, then use a later Philips entry such as 3614.
Power and volume work, the smart menu does not
Move down the Philips entry. The later codes in the list carry the menu commands used by newer Philips platforms; the first ones reach only the core functions.

What is the universal remote code for a Philips TV?
On a One For All Contour TV the published Philips codes are 0556, 2800, 3614, 4209, 1887, 1506, 3678, 2813 and 2768, in that order.
Why is the Philips code the same as a Samsung code?
Philips created the RC5 infrared standard and licensed it widely, so command sets derived from it appear under several brands. In One For All's own list, 0556 is given for Philips, Samsung, LG and Hisense alike.
Can a universal remote control Ambilight?
No. Ambilight is generated and configured by the television itself rather than by an infrared command, so no code reaches it.
Do I have to re-enter the code after changing the batteries?
On almost every modern remote, no. Codes are held in non-volatile memory and survive a battery change. If power and volume stop working immediately after a battery swap, re-enter the code — a few older models do lose their programming when left without cells for several minutes.
