RCA remote codes

RCA remotes are made by VOXX Accessories Corp, which identifies a remote's code table by the revision number printed on the remote rather than by its model number. Thirty-six revisions are published, and codes do not carry between them.

Code tables from the manufacturer's published lists, with each source and its retrieval date beneath the table · how we check

The short answer

RCA is the one brand where the model number on the box will not help you. The code table is identified by a revision number printed on the remote itself, and RCA publishes thirty-six of them. Find that number first — codes from the wrong revision will not work.

Almost every failed RCA pairing comes down to using a code from the wrong revision. RCA remotes that look identical, and carry the same model number, can hold different code tables depending on when they were made.

There is one piece of good news buried in that. Several revisions publish an identical table, so the number of genuinely distinct lists is smaller than thirty-six — which means a near miss on the revision number is often survivable.

Not sure which list applies? Find your remote's model, CL version or revision before choosing a code table.

Programming sequence

6 steps
  1. 1

Find the revision number under the battery. RCA identifies your code table by revision, not by model number.

  2. 2

Look your device up in the list for that revision. Codes do not carry between revisions.

  3. 3

Switch the device on manually and point the remote at it.

  4. 4

If your remote has a CODE SEARCH key: hold CODE SEARCH until the indicator light turns on, press the device key (the light blinks, then stays lit), and enter the code exactly as your revision's list shows it. The light turns off.

  5. 5

If it has no CODE SEARCH key, as on the D770 and D771: hold the device key down, enter the code, then release it.

  6. 6

Aim the remote at the device and press POWER (ON•OFF). If nothing happens, try the next code for your brand. Your owner's manual has the exact sequence for your model.

Find the revision number before anything else

RCA shows the revision number under the battery: remove the battery cover and the battery to see it. It is not the model number on the packaging.

RCA's own code finder asks for this number before it will show you anything, which tells you how central it is. Every list on this page is grouped by it.

Some revisions share a table

Of the revisions RCA publishes, several carry tables that are identical once compared entry by entry — R271U1 and R271U2 are the same list, as are D770 and D771, and 20174, 20301 and 20401 between them.

That is worth knowing when the number on your remote has worn away or does not appear in the list. A revision from the same group is not a guess; it is the same table under another name.

RCA's tables cover more equipment than most

RCA publishes codes across televisions, cable and satellite boxes, disc players, audio receivers, soundbars, streaming devices and projectors. Each lives on its own device key.

Pressing the wrong device key before entering a code is, after the revision number, the most common reason a correct code appears not to work.

When a RCA remote will not take a code

No code from the list works

Check the revision number under the battery against the list you are using. RCA looks up codes by revision, so a list for another revision will not match.

I cannot find the revision number

RCA shows it under the battery. If it has worn away, several revisions publish an identical table, so a revision from the same group uses the same codes.

My RCA remote has no SET button

RCA remotes use either a CODE SEARCH key or the device key itself to start programming, depending on the model. The owner's manual for your model shows which.

The code works for the TV but not the cable box

Each device key stores its own code. Press CBL or AUX before entering a set-top box code rather than leaving TV selected.

Starting over? Follow the reset instructions for your remote, then use the pairing steps for GE, RCA or One For All.

RCA remote code FAQs

What are the RCA universal remote codes?

RCA publishes a separate code list for each revision of its remotes — thirty-six in total — and the revision number is printed on the remote itself. The lists on this page are grouped by that number, because codes do not carry between revisions.

Where is the revision number on an RCA remote?

Under the battery. RCA's instructions are to remove the battery cover and the battery to see it. It is not the model number printed on the packaging.

Why will my RCA code not work?

Check that the list matches the revision number under your remote's battery. RCA publishes codes by revision, and codes for one revision do not carry over to another.

What if the revision number has worn off?

Try the larger revision groups in turn. Several revisions publish an identical table — R271U1 and R271U2 are the same list, for instance — so the odds of landing on the right one are better than the number of revisions suggests.

How do I program an RCA remote without a code?

On models with a CODE SEARCH key, such as the RCRH02BE: hold CODE SEARCH until the light turns on, press the device key, point the remote at the device and press POWER. As soon as the device turns off, press ENTER within 4 seconds.

Do RCA remotes use SET or CODE SEARCH?

It depends on the model. Remotes such as the RCRH02BE use a CODE SEARCH key; older remotes such as the D770 and D771 are programmed by holding the device key while entering a code.
