Programming sequence

Find the revision number under the battery. RCA identifies your code table by revision, not by model number.

Look your device up in the list for that revision. Codes do not carry between revisions.

Switch the device on manually and point the remote at it.

If your remote has a CODE SEARCH key: hold CODE SEARCH until the indicator light turns on, press the device key (the light blinks, then stays lit), and enter the code exactly as your revision's list shows it. The light turns off.

If it has no CODE SEARCH key, as on the D770 and D771: hold the device key down, enter the code, then release it.

Aim the remote at the device and press POWER (ON•OFF). If nothing happens, try the next code for your brand. Your owner's manual has the exact sequence for your model.

Frequently asked
What if none of the codes work?
Use the remote's code search. On GE remotes, hold SETUP, press the device button and press POWER to send ten codes at a time. One For All and RCA remotes use their own keys; the guide to programming without codes has each sequence.
Do I need a 4-digit or 5-digit code?
It depends on the remote, not the TV. GE's CL3 to CL6 lists and the One For All Contour TV list are all four-digit codes. Most RCA revision tables use five-digit codes, but some, such as D770 and D771, use four. Enter the code exactly as your remote's list shows it.
How do I know which device button to press?
Match the remote button to the device type — TV, AV, BD or SAT. The matching button must be selected before you enter any code, because it decides which part of the remote's code table is used.
Are these codes the same for any remote?
No. Codes vary by remote brand and model. Confirm your remote first — a Samsung code from a One For All list will not program a GE remote, because the numbers address different internal tables.
Where do I find my remote's model number?
In the battery compartment. GE prints the code-list version (CL3 to CL6) on a sticker under the batteries, RCA prints a revision number under the battery, and One For All prints the model number inside the battery door. That number decides which code list applies to you.
Will a universal remote control a smart TV's apps?
It controls power, volume, channel, input and the arrow keys, which is enough to navigate most smart TV interfaces. Voice keys and dedicated app-launch buttons live on the TV's own Bluetooth remote and cannot be reproduced over infrared.
