How to reset Samsung TV
Sources checked · how we check
Start with a cold boot for a frozen app or sluggish menu. If you need a factory reset, match the menu on your screen to one of the paths below. Samsung's year-by-year source covers Australian models; regional menus can differ.
01 · Start here
Restart before erasing your setup
- With the TV on, hold Power on the Samsung remote until the TV switches off and starts again. Then release it.
- If the remote cannot do this, unplug the TV from the outlet for 30 seconds, reconnect it and turn it on.

How to factory reset Samsung TV
Before you confirm
Factory reset restores picture, sound, channels and other preferences. What happens to network and app data varies by model: Samsung's Australian guide says network settings are retained. Check your model's manual before giving the TV away.
2022–2025 models: General & Privacy
Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → Reset or Factory data reset

2025 models use Factory data reset; 2023–2024 models may show either label.

- Enter the TV PIN when asked, then confirm.
2016 models: Self Diagnosis
Settings → Support → Self Diagnosis → Reset

After the reset
Let the TV finish restarting, then follow its setup prompts. Check picture, sound and channel preferences afterward.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reset a Samsung TV without the remote?
You can try the 30-second power disconnect above without a remote. A factory reset requires access to your model's reset controls; unplugging alone does not erase settings.
Is Reset Smart Hub the same as a TV factory reset?
They are separate reset options. Check which one your model's support instructions call for before confirming; this page covers the TV reset menu.
