The short answer

The receiver and amplifier codes below come from Jasco's published GE lists and RCA's code finder, grouped by GE code-list version and RCA revision. On GE remotes, Jasco says any device button can control a compatible device, and GE and UltraPro remotes have a master volume control feature for keeping volume on one device.

On GE remotes, Jasco says any device button can control a compatible device. RCA's D771 lets you assign an audio component to its AUX1 or AUX2 key.

Which button to program

Jasco says a GE remote's device buttons can be programmed to control any compatible A/V device. RCA's D771 manual lets you assign an audio component to the AUX1 or AUX2 key.

Keeping volume on the receiver

Jasco says GE and UltraPro universal remotes have a master volume control feature, so you can adjust the volume on your chosen audio device without first switching the remote to it. The steps are in your remote's instruction manual.

HDMI-CEC

Google describes CEC as letting devices connected by HDMI be controlled with one remote. If a receiver in an HDMI chain reacts to commands you didn't send it, check the TV's CEC setting.

Amazon lists what TV makers call it: Anynet+ on Samsung, SIMPLINK on LG, BRAVIA Sync on Sony, EasyLink on Philips.

When it doesn't work

The GE remote's light doesn't behave as described

Jasco says this is most commonly caused by bad batteries, even brand-new ones. Try a different set before changing codes.

Only some buttons work

Jasco and RCA both say a code may control only some functions. Try the next code for your receiver's brand.

My receiver isn't in the code list
