Universal remote codes for streaming players

The short answer

Codes exist for the streaming devices that have an infrared receiver, and Jasco publishes them by CL version. But many popular streaming sticks have no infrared receiver at all, in which case no code on this page will control them. Check yours before working through a list.

This is the one equipment category where the code list is not the first question. Infrared needs a receiver, and a large share of streaming hardware pairs its own remote over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi instead, with no infrared receiver fitted.

Where a device does accept infrared, the codes below come from Jasco's published GE lists. Where it does not, the section underneath explains what actually works instead.

Use the right device key first

AUXDVDSTBCBL

Streaming players have no device key of their own on most remotes. Jasco files them under the auxiliary and set-top categories, so try AUX first and the set-top keys after.

Check for an infrared receiver before anything else

Point the device's own remote at a phone's front-facing camera and press a button. A white or pale purple flicker on screen means the remote sends infrared, and a universal remote has something to imitate. No flicker means Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and no code will ever help.

That single test takes ten seconds and saves working through a code list that cannot succeed. It is the reason this page leads with the test rather than the table.

Which devices accept infrared

Apple TV is the best case: it has an infrared receiver and can learn any remote's commands from its own settings, so it works with a universal remote regardless of brand or code. The Fire TV Cube both receives and transmits infrared. Roku players vary by model, with older simple remotes using infrared and voice models not.

Roku televisions are a separate matter entirely. A Roku TV is an ordinary television with an infrared receiver, so it is covered by the TV codes for whoever built it, not by the entries on this page.

HDMI-CEC is the answer for the rest

For Bluetooth-only devices, let the television do the work. HDMI-CEC passes control commands along the HDMI cable, so a remote programmed with the TV's code can drive a connected streaming device's navigation and playback.

Every manufacturer brands it differently, which is why it gets overlooked: Anynet+ on Samsung, SIMPLINK on LG, BRAVIA Sync on Sony, Viera Link on Panasonic.

When it doesn't work

No code works, and the device's own remote shows no flicker

The device has no infrared receiver. That is not a code problem and cannot be solved with one — use HDMI-CEC from the television instead.

The remote controls the TV but not the streaming stick

Expected on Bluetooth-only hardware. Enable HDMI-CEC on both the television and the stick, then test the arrow keys with the TV code selected.

My Roku TV is not in this list

A Roku TV is a television, not a streaming player. Use the TV codes for the brand that built it — TCL, Hisense or Sharp.
