3, 4 and 5 digit remote codes: which one does your remote take?
The short answer
Use the length shown in the code list for your own remote. GE's CL3 to CL6 lists and the One For All Contour TV list are all four-digit codes. RCA varies by revision: most RCA revision tables use five-digit codes, but some, such as D770 and D771, use four. Don't add or drop digits to make a code fit.
A code's length belongs to the remote, not to the television. Each remote looks codes up in its own list, so the same TV can have a four-digit code on one remote and a five-digit code on another.
The lengths on this page are counted from the manufacturer code lists this site publishes, each linked from its code table.

Three-digit codes are rare. RCA's tables contain a handful, and Roku's own chart lists 387 among its codes for RCA and Voxx remotes. They only work on a remote whose list contains them.

Why you can't convert a code to another length
Each list belongs to one remote. Jasco looks codes up by CL version and RCA by revision number, so a code from another remote's list isn't the same command, whatever its length.
We have no manufacturer document describing a rule for turning a code of one length into another, so we don't give one. Use the list for your own remote, or its code search if there is no list.

Entering the code
Enter the code exactly as the list shows it, including any leading zero. One For All's Contour TV list, for example, includes codes such as 0556.
GE: after holding SETUP and pressing the device button, enter the 4-digit code. The red light turns off.
One For All Contour TV: after holding SETUP until the LED blinks twice, enter the four-digit code. The LED blinks twice.
RCA with a CODE SEARCH key, such as the RCRH02BE: enter the four-digit code. If the light blinks several times, the code is invalid.

Codes for controlling a Roku TV
Roku publishes its own codes for universal remotes that control a Roku TV, in four or five digits depending on the remote: 2891 for GE, 10885 for Inteset, and 11564 among its codes for RCA and Voxx remotes. Roku notes some remotes give only basic control (power, volume and input).
