How to connect a Roku remote to your TV

Sources checked · how we check

There are two jobs here. On a Roku TV, the remote connects to the TV itself. With a Roku streaming player, the remote controls the player, and you set it up separately to control your TV's power and volume.

01 · Before you start

Check these first

  1. Turn the TV's volume up, and make sure it isn't muted.
  2. Point the Roku voice remote directly at the TV during setup.
  3. Turn on HDMI-CEC in your TV's settings.

  2. Point the remote at the front of the Roku TV. Simple remotes don't need pairing.

Roku simple remotes only work with Roku TVs, and need a clear line of sight.

If it still won't connect

If the remote doesn't control the TV, check the TV volume is up and not muted, then repeat the setup or re-enter your TV brand. If the Roku player is connected through a soundbar or receiver, connect it directly to the TV during setup. Roku notes that not all TVs fully support CEC, and some only allow volume control.
