How to connect a Firestick remote
Sources checked · how we check
A new Fire TV remote pairs from the Fire TV's remote settings. If you don't have a working remote, restarting the Fire TV makes it look for one.
01 · Before you start
Check these first
- Check the remote works with your Fire TV device: Amazon says not all remotes are compatible with every Fire TV device.
- Have fresh batteries ready for the new remote.
02 · Connect
Step by step, by device
With your current remote
Settings → Controllers & Bluetooth Devices → Amazon Fire TV Remotes → Add New Remote
- Using your current remote, go to Settings → Controllers & Bluetooth Devices → Amazon Fire TV Remotes → Add New Remote.
- Insert batteries in the new remote. It should appear in the list.
- If it doesn't appear, press and hold Home on the new remote for 10 seconds.
Without your current remote
Unplug the Fire TV → plug in → wait for the remote error → batteries in
- Restart the Fire TV device by unplugging it from power, then plug it back in.
- Wait for the on-screen message that no remote was detected, then insert the batteries in the new remote.
- If it doesn't pair, press and hold Home for 10 seconds.
With the Fire TV app
Fire TV app → Settings → Controllers & Bluetooth Devices → Add New Remote
- Open the Fire TV app on your phone and use it to go to Settings on your Fire TV.
- Select Controllers & Bluetooth Devices → Amazon Fire TV Remotes → Add New Remote, then select the remote you want to pair.
If it still won't connect
If holding Home for 10 seconds doesn't pair the remote, reset the remote with Amazon's button sequence for your remote generation and let the Fire TV detect it again. The steps are in the Firestick remote reset guide.
