How to stop a TV turning off by itself

Sources checked · how we check

A TV that switches off on its own is usually following a power-saving setting or a timer. Check those first, before looking at connected devices or the remote.

01 · Before you start

Check these first

  1. Samsung says Power and Energy Saving turns the TV off to save power when there's no input for a long time.
  2. A Sleep Timer also turns the TV off after a preset time.

Roku streaming player: auto power savings

Home → Settings → System → Power → Auto power savings

  1. Press Home and go to Settings → System → Power → Auto power savings.
  2. Uncheck After 20 minutes of no interaction.

Roku says when this is on, a compatible player that's idle for 20 minutes enters low power mode and tries to turn off the TV. It lists the Express 4K and 4K+, Streaming Stick 4K and 4K+, Roku 4, Ultra and Ultra LT.

If the setting doesn't change

If a Samsung TV still turns off, Samsung lists other causes: out-of-date software (update it from Settings → Support → Software Update), a connected set-top box, game console or PC turning it off through HDMI-CEC, which can be disabled, and a faulty remote.
