How to reset Garmin watch

Sources checked · how we check

These instructions are specifically for the Venu 3 series. Garmin families have different buttons and reset menus; use your own model's manual for a Forerunner, fēnix or another series.

01 · Start here

Restart before erasing your setup

  1. On a responsive Venu 3, hold Action for two seconds to open the controls menu and select its power-off control.
  2. Hold Action for two seconds to turn the watch on again. For a frozen watch, consult the manual's Restarting the Watch section; Garmin warns that a forced restart may lose data or settings.

How to factory reset Garmin watch

Before you confirm

Sync activities with Garmin Connect first. The full erase removes user information, activity history, stored music and the Garmin Pay wallet from the watch.

Venu 3: retain activity history

Hold Back → Settings → System → Reset

  1. Choose Reset Default Settings and follow the prompts.

This resets preferences and profile settings while keeping activity history, downloaded apps and files. It is not a full erase for handing the watch to someone else.

If you can't open the reset menu

If the touchscreen is locked, the Venu 3 manual says to hold any button to unlock it. If the watch is frozen, use its troubleshooting section rather than a different model's reset shortcut.

After the reset

Review setup in Garmin Connect. Reconfigure music and Garmin Pay if you chose the full erase.
