01 · Start here
Restart before erasing your setup
- For Apple TV 4K, open Settings → System → Restart.
- If it is unresponsive, disconnect power for five seconds and reconnect.

02 · Factory reset
How to factory reset Apple TV
Before you confirm
Factory reset erases information on the box. Keep power connected throughout the process.
Apple TV 4K or HD
Settings → System → Reset
- Choose Reset to restore factory settings without an internet connection, or Reset and Update to also install updates using the internet.
- Leave the box connected to power until it finishes.

Third generation or earlier
Settings → General → Reset
- Choose Restore for factory settings and software updates; this requires internet.
- Reset All Settings is a separate option that clears settings, accounts and configuration.

Set up the Apple TV again after the process completes.
Frequently asked questions
Which reset option needs the internet?
On 4K and HD models, Reset and Update does; Reset alone does not. On older models, Restore requires internet.
