How to turn off active status on Instagram

Activity Status shows other people when you're active on Instagram. You can switch it off in Settings.

Check these first
- When your Activity Status is off, you also can't see anyone else's Activity Status on Instagram.

02 · Change the setting
Step by step, by device
Instagram on a computer
More → Settings → Messages and story replies → Show Activity Status
- Click More in the bottom left, then Settings.
- Under How others can interact with you, click Messages and story replies.
- Click Show Activity Status, then the toggle next to it to turn it on or off.
Instagram's help article also has app-specific versions of these steps; select your app there if the menus look different.

If the setting doesn't change
If you can't see when your friends are active after hiding your own status, that's how Activity Status works: Instagram says that when yours is off, you can't see anyone else's Activity Status either.

Frequently asked questions
Where is Activity Status in Instagram settings?
On a computer: More → Settings → Messages and story replies → Show Activity Status.
If I turn off my active status, can I still see others?
No. Instagram says you won't be able to see anyone else's Activity Status while yours is off.
