How to reset HP printer
Sources checked · how we check
HP documents a factory restore from the HP app, the printer's touchscreen or its Embedded Web Server. Printers without a touchscreen use a button sequence that depends on the model family.
01 · Start here
Restart before erasing your setup
- If the printer has only lost its connection or cannot be found during setup, restore Wi-Fi setup mode instead. It resets network settings without restoring everything else.

Before you confirm
Restoring factory defaults does not remove the printer from your HP account or cancel Instant Ink. To sell or recycle the printer, follow HP's separate preparation steps.
HP app or Embedded Web Server
Printer → Advanced Settings → Settings or System → Restore Factory Defaults
- Open the HP app, click your printer, then Advanced Settings. Or open the printer's Embedded Web Server.
- Open the Settings or System tab. If asked, enter the PIN from the printer label (and admin as the user name on LaserJets).
- Click Restore Factory Defaults, then Yes. On LaserJets, click Service → Restore defaults → OK. The printer restarts after about 20 seconds.
Touchscreen printers
Setup or Menu → Tools or Printer Maintenance → Restore
- Touch the Setup or Menu icon. You may need to swipe down first to open the Dashboard.
