How to reset DIRECTV remote

Before resetting your device
- Try pairing first: point at the Genie, Genie Mini or Wireless Genie Mini and hold Mute plus Enter.
- Wait for Applying IR/RF Setup on the screen.
02 · Reset and reconnect
Reset and reconnect your DIRECTV remote
Before you start
Resetting the remote may require pairing and programming it again. The receiver's red reset button is a separate control.
DIRECTV Genie remote
Mute + Select → 9-8-1 → Select
- Hold Mute and Select together until the light flashes three times.
- Press 9, 8, 1, then Select. Four flashes confirm the reset.
After the reset
Pair the Genie remote again, then check channel navigation and TV volume.
Frequently asked questions
Are Enter and Select interchangeable?
No. DIRECTV uses Mute/Enter for Genie pairing and Mute/Select to begin the factory-reset sequence documented here.
Can I use this on a Gemini remote?
Use DIRECTV's Gemini instructions instead. The steps here are explicitly for Genie.
