How to turn off the descale light on a Keurig K-Slim

On a K-Slim, the DESCALE light belongs to Descale Mode. Follow Keurig's descaling procedure, which takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and the brewer exits Descale Mode at the end.

01 · Before you start

Check these first

  1. You need a large ceramic mug (not a paper cup), fresh water, Keurig Descaling Solution and access to a sink.
  2. Make sure there's no pod in the K-Cup pod holder. Keurig recommends descaling every 3 months.

02 · Change the setting

Step by step, by device

Step 1: descaling solution rinse

Solution + water in reservoir → brewer off → hold 8oz + 12oz for 3 seconds

  1. Pour the whole bottle of Keurig Descaling Solution into the empty water reservoir, then fill the bottle with water and pour that in too.
  2. Place a large mug on the drip tray. With the brewer powered off, press and hold the 8oz and 12oz buttons together for 3 seconds, until the DESCALE light turns solid.
  3. When the brew button flashes, press it. Pour the hot liquid into the sink, and repeat until the ADD WATER light comes on.

Step 2 and 3: fresh water rinse

Refill to MAX → brew until ADD WATER lights → Descale Mode ends

  1. Empty the water reservoir and refill it to the MAX line with fresh water.
  2. Press the brew button when it flashes, and repeat until the ADD WATER light comes on.
  3. The brewer then exits Descale Mode and is ready to use.

If the setting doesn't change

If only a small amount or nothing comes out and you hear air, Keurig says to turn off and unplug the brewer, empty and rinse the reservoir if it still has solution in it, refill with water, plug back in and repeat the fresh water rinse. If it persists, leave it unplugged for at least 30 minutes before continuing. Some foam during descaling is normal.
