How to reset HomePod

Sources checked · how we check

Apple documents two resets for HomePod: removing it in the Home app, or a hold on the top of the speaker when the app reset doesn't start.

01 · Start here

Restart before erasing your setup

  1. Unplug HomePod, wait 15 seconds, then plug it back in.
  2. Or in the Home app, select HomePod → Settings → Reset HomePod → Restart HomePod. A white spinning light shows while it restarts.

How to factory reset HomePod

Before you confirm

Resetting removes HomePod from your home, and it must be set up again. Ungroup a stereo pair before resetting either speaker.

Reset in the Home app

Home app → HomePod → Settings → Reset HomePod → Remove Accessory

  1. Use the iPhone, iPad or Mac signed in with the Apple Account that set up HomePod.
  2. If a white spinning light appears on top, wait until it disappears. The reset is then complete.

  1. Unplug HomePod, wait at least 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
  2. Wait 10 seconds, then touch and hold the top. Keep holding while the white spinning light turns red and Siri says HomePod is about to reset.
  3. Lift your finger after you hear three beeps.
