What the LED on an Arlo camera means
Sources checked · how we check
Arlo uses blue for power and pairing and amber for problems, but the exact meaning of each pattern depends on the camera: solid amber is an internet error on an Essential Indoor camera and a missing SIM card on a Go 2. Find your camera's section first. One pattern means the same on all of them: alternating blue and amber is a firmware update, and the camera must not be switched off.
What this covers
Arlo publishes one LED article with a separate table for each camera family, and the sections below follow it. The SmartHub and Base Station have their own LED table.

Ultra, Pro 4, Pro 3, Pro 3 Floodlight, and Essential wire-free, Outdoor (2nd Gen), Security (3rd Gen), Plug-In, Pan Tilt and Solar cameras
Solid blue
The camera is connected to power.
What to do: Nothing. Arlo says the Battery Charged LED can be turned off in Device Settings.

Slow blinking blue
The camera is pairing with an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station, or with your Wi-Fi network.
What to do: Let it finish pairing.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Fast blinking blue
The camera has paired with the SmartHub or Base Station, or with your Wi-Fi network.
What to do: Nothing. This is the connected state.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Slow blinking amber
The camera cannot be found, is out of range, or another connection error happened during pairing. Arlo also lists a low battery for this pattern.
What to do: Charge the battery first, then move the camera closer to the hub or router and pair it again.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Fast blinking amber
The camera failed to sync with the SmartHub or Base Station, or with your Wi-Fi network.
What to do: Move it closer and try pairing again.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Alternating blue and amber
A firmware update is in progress.
What to do: Do not turn the camera off. Arlo puts this in capitals. Wait for it to finish.

Pro 5 and Pro Security Camera (6th Gen)
Solid blue
The camera is connected to power.
What to do: Nothing. The Battery Charged LED can be turned off in Device Settings.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Slow blinking blue
The camera is pairing with an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station.
What to do: Let it finish pairing.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Slow breathing blue (Pro 5 only)
The camera is pairing using SecureLink.
What to do: Let it finish pairing.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Fast blinking blue
The camera is connected: to the SmartHub or Base Station if it is paired to one, otherwise to your Wi-Fi network.
What to do: Nothing, normally. Arlo notes that if the camera has been removed from the Arlo Secure app and still blinks fast blue when powered on, it needs a factory reset before it can be set up again.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Blinking amber
The camera is out of range, a connection error happened during pairing, or the batteries are low.
What to do: Charge the battery first, then move the camera closer to the hub or router and pair it again.

Amber four times, then stops
A factory reset has been triggered.
What to do: Set the camera up again in the Arlo Secure app.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Alternating blue and amber
A firmware update is in progress.
What to do: Do not turn the camera off. Wait for it to finish.

Essential Indoor Camera (1st to 3rd Gen) and Wired Floodlight Camera
Solid blue
The camera is powered on.
What to do: Nothing. The camera LED can be turned off in Device Settings.

Slow blinking blue
The camera is pairing with your Wi-Fi network (or, on the Essential Indoor, a SmartHub or Base Station).
What to do: Let it finish pairing.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Fast blinking blue
The camera has paired.
What to do: Nothing.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Solid amber
An internet connectivity error occurred.
What to do: The camera has power but cannot reach the internet. Check your network before the camera.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Slow blinking amber
A setup error occurred, or the camera failed to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
What to do: Check the Wi-Fi details and run setup again.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Off
The camera is not getting power. On an Essential Indoor camera the privacy shutter is closed too; if the light is blinking slowly with the shutter closed, the camera is offline.
What to do: Check the power adapter and outlet.
Source: Arlo: what do the different LED behaviors on my Arlo camera mean?
Alternating blue and amber
A firmware update is in progress.

If none of these match your light
Arlo's LED article also has tables for older cameras, including the Pro 2, Pro, Arlo Wire-Free and the original Arlo Go, and the SmartHub and Base Station have their own LED table. If the light is on the hub rather than a camera, or your camera is not named above, check Arlo's article for that device.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my Arlo camera blinking amber?
On most Arlo Pro, Ultra and Essential cameras, slow blinking amber means the camera cannot be found, is out of range, or hit a pairing error, or the battery is low. Fast blinking amber means it failed to sync. Check the battery first, then the distance to the hub or router.
What does alternating blue and amber mean on an Arlo camera?
A firmware update is running, on every Arlo camera. Do not turn the camera off or remove the battery until it finishes.
What does solid amber mean on an Arlo camera?
It depends on the camera. On an Essential Indoor or Wired Floodlight camera, it is an internet connectivity error. On a Go 2, it means the camera does not detect an activated SIM card.
Can I turn the Arlo LED off?
Arlo says the LED can be turned off in Device Settings on most of its cameras.
