How to connect AirPods to a laptop or PC
Sources checked · how we check
Windows treats AirPods like any Bluetooth headphones. Put the case into pairing mode, then add them from Windows' Bluetooth settings. On a MacBook they usually connect on their own; see the main AirPods guide.
01 · Before you start
Check these first
- Put both AirPods in the charging case and make sure it is charged.
- Turn on Bluetooth on the laptop: Windows 11 Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices; Windows 10 Start → Settings → Devices.
- Know your pairing-mode gesture: AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4 and AirPods 5: double-tap the front of the case until the status light flashes white. Other models: press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until the status light flashes white.
02 · Connect
Step by step, by device
Windows 11
Pairing mode → quick settings → Manage Bluetooth devices → New devices
- Open the lid of the AirPods case and start pairing mode until the status light flashes white.
- Select the Network, Sound or Battery icon on the taskbar, then the Manage Bluetooth devices arrow on the Bluetooth tile.
- Select your AirPods under New devices, follow the prompts, then select Done.
Windows 10
Settings → Devices → Bluetooth & other devices → Add Bluetooth or other device
- Open the lid of the AirPods case and start pairing mode until the status light flashes white.
- Go to Settings → Devices → Bluetooth & other devices and select Add Bluetooth or other device.
- Choose Bluetooth, select your AirPods, follow the instructions, then select Done.
If it still won't connect
AirPods only show up on the laptop while the case is in pairing mode. Close the lid, open it again and hold the pairing gesture until the light flashes white. If Windows has no Bluetooth setting at all, the PC has no Bluetooth adapter or needs updated drivers.

Why don't my AirPods appear on my PC?
The case must be in pairing mode, with its status light flashing white, while Windows searches.
